The other day I was showing this new blog to my Grandmother (along with promising to post more photo's up to my Flickr) and showing her how to maneuver through the various links etc...
She told me she found it interesting I had put the photo of Portland in the header of my blog prominently featuring the Fremont Bridge ( Wiki Fremont Bridge ). I had intended to prominently feature the St Johns Bridge ( Portland Bridges ).
Seems in the late 60's my Grandfather was trying to move the family back to Portland Oregon and was having a difficult time locating appropiate work (he was a Engineer, I imagine finding work around the globe pre Internet era would be very difficult and time consuming task). He was able to get on with Drake construction if he committed to a one year contract to assist them with the Fremont Bridge construction. He was responsible for allocating and estimating all the concrete needs in the bridge.
So in honor of my Grandfather the header with the Fremont Bridge will stay for the time being. I had been looking for a more appropiate St Johns photo but I will hold off on that for now.
Nothing else much going on in my world.
Well it seems it has been decided to take down the much maligned and infrequently used Racquet Center in the downtown St Johns area.
This is but another step in the redevelopment of our little neighborhood. One I greatly look forward to.

This is my neighborhood. Where I bought my first home last year. To be honest I was a bit hesitant when I first started looking at homes here and it certainly does have it's quirks. But the pace of change here is amazing. I love being in Portland but it is completely like a small town within the city. The bridge is by far the most beautiful in Portland. The walkable area, squeezed between the Wilamette and Columbia rivers, Forest Park, Pier Park, Cathedral Park, Boat Launches, Smith Bybee lakes, Kayaking and Canoeing... you name it is all here.
